About

1. So, when did you get the idea to do a compilation? and any reason why and now?I get to hear so much amazing new music all the time, and share it through my radio shows. I thought it’d be good to collect some new tracks by artists and make a compilation to get more people into them. At a time when there’s so many new avenues of hearing ace new music, it’s good to have filters, and hopefuly this compilation is an effective one.

2. Was it easy pulling the songs together and choosing the tracks?
Yes. I sat down with Wichita Recordings in the middle of the vinyl, badge and poster emporium that is their office and we swapped names and ideas. A lot crossed over, and then it was a case of chasing the bands, who were keen to get involved. We extended a hand on the good ship compilation and they happily put on their lifeboat jackets.

3. There’s quite a variation of stuff on there, from party punk metal like Pulled Apart By Horses to Moricone-esque Icelandic drama like Hjaltalin, was that on purpose? How did you make it all sit on one compilation?
Variety is the name of the game. There’s disco beats and acoustic warmth, strung-out blissfulness and indie rock’n'roll. I wanted it to be an exciting listen and there’s such a variety of good new music around it couldn’t be anything other than exciting. They sit track by track beautifully!

4. What’s the difference between listening to this compilation and someone tuning into your radio show?
They won’t hear me mumbling in between the tunes! The shows and this compilation share the same idea; sharing good new tunes with an audience eager to lap it up.

5. What’s your assessment of new music right now? Are you excited with what’s appearing in your inbox and postbag at the moment?
The bags and inboxes are overflowing. Going through them brings a varied mix of emotions. A lot is bands just starting out and finding their feet, some inspired and some not so. The ones that stand out are the ones that play from the heart, mix things up and do it naturally without being forced.

6. Are there any bands that you couldn’t get on the compilation that you’d loved to have?
Yes. I won’t name them now, but they might appear on future compilations.

7. Will There be a Music Sounds Better With Huw: Volume 2? Any lessons learnt from this one?
I hope so. The world needs to hear more good new stuff as often as possible, and I’m hoping this’ll be an interesting series of catch ups.

8. Final words?
Explore these bands other tunes and tell yer mates!
