Rough Trade Best of 2011

I love and end of year list. Especially when it comes from Rough Trade Record shops. Their two London shops are things of beauty (East new and big, West old and small, both full of beautiful pieces of wax and plastic) and their taste, as witnessed on their excellent Counter Culture compilations, is always pretty reliable. Their 100 favourite albums of the last 12 months is HERE

Manic Street Preachers – This is the Day

The Manics cover The The from the 80′s, with a great video bringing together footage of the band from over the years.

Peaking Lights

The standout track from their album, coming out again via Weird World Records and sounding magnificent.

Jon Hillcock’s New Noise

Jon Hillcock is a good man. Every week he goes about putting ten songs he’s really really really digging together into a free to enjoy audio montage. It’s always surprising, exciting and a treat to the ears. Subscribe to his site HERE

Dim Byd

The best, craziest, funniest, most mental thing on S4C, the Welsh language tv channel, in years. Dim Byd.

Peth gore fi di gweld ar ein sianel hoff ers blynyddoedd maith. Doniol.

Gold Panda at Koko

A beautiful video made at Gold Panda’s recent gig in London’s KOKO. Gotta love a bit of Derwin. You can just about make me out, fourth from the back, 5th left, hands in there. (Not really. I wasn’t there. Wish I was though).

Jens Lekman / Domino Recordings / Los Campesinos!

This week on my BBC Radio 1 Wednesday night show, Jens Lekman from Sweden was in session. Gareth and Tom from Los Campesinos! came in to talk about their mighty new album Hello Sadness, and Laurence Bell, fresh from winning Pioneer Awards at the AIM Awards 2011, spoke about his label, Domino. The show will be up until Midnight on Wednesday November 23rd 2011.
