I started playing CocknBullKid on the show back in 2008, and invited her and her mate Miss Odd Kid in to do sessions. The two female ‘Kids’, making forward thinking, energetic and exciting electro pop. In 2011, it’s good to hear Anita Bley’s, CocknBullKid extraordinaire, debut album. As you’d expect from an album that’s got names like Chilly Gonzales, Peter Moren (from Peter Bjorn and John) and producer Liam Howe throughout the credits for the record, it’s a brilliant listen. Well thought out, accomplished, and, yes, undeniably pop. And a sophisticated pop at that, in that it’s not cheesy or sugar-coated to the point of nausea, but a beautifully crafted album full of songs that bounce with melody and Anita’s at times vulnerable but confident vocals.Singles Asthma Attack and Hold On To Your Misery make even more sense next to belters like soft-pop beauty Yellow and album closer I Deserve It, a stomping, singalong fell good song that finishes with the CocknBullKid herself getting all potty-mouthed.
